Delegates attending the 5th Solvay Physics Conference in October 1927. The conferences were initiated by Belgian chemist and industrialist Ernest Solvay (1838-1922). The fifth one was held shortly after an explosion of research into quantum mechanics, to investigate the theories surrounding electrons and photons. The delegates shown here included such luminaries as Marie Curie (1867-1934), Paul Dirac (1902-1984), Albert Einstein (1879-1955), Paul Langevin (1872-1946), Max Planck (1858-1947), and Erwin Schrodinger (1887-1961).
