Coloured lithograph by Paul Gauci after a drawing by L L Raze of the South Eastern Railway (SER) station at Canterbury. The South Eastern Railway Bill came to Parliament and the Act was gained in 1836, initially for a line from London to Folkestone and Dover in Kent. Over the next two decades, the SER expanded its network across the south-eastern corner of England to include Tunbridge Wells (1845), Ramsgate and Margate (1846), Deal (1847), Gravesend (1849) and Hastings (1851).
