'Passengers of the Past - the Pilgrim Fathers', LNER poster, 1929.
 Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER), showing two men in 17th century costume, pointing to a pullman carriage bearing the name 'The Hook of Holland', to the suprise and amusement of modern-day passengers inside. Beneath the image, a rhyme describes how the pilgrim fathers are deciding to take the Harwich boat-train to Holland, before proceeding to America. Artwork by Austin Cooper (1890-1964), a Canadian who studied art in Cardiff and Arbroath. He began his career as a commercial artist in Montreal, but returned to London in 1922 and designed posters for LNER, Indian State Railways and London Transport. His first show was held at the London Gallery in 1948. Printed by the Dangerfield Printing Company Ltd, London.
